The area is characterized by a dense canopy of subtropical broadleaf trees, interspersed with rocky outcrops and mountain streams, offering a rich biodiversity including native birds, insects, and plant species. Historically, the region was a strategic spot for indigenous people and later local settlers, contributing to its cultural and historical significance. Today, Dakeng is a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, providing more than 11 hiking trails that vary in difficulty and length, some featuring wooden staircases and suspension bridges that blend into the forest. One of the area's highlights is the Dakeng Geopark, known for its unique rock formations and impressive views over Taichung. Rock climbing is also a favored activity, with several established climbing routes on the cliffs. The area attracts visitors year-round, with spring and autumn offering the most pleasant weather for outdoor adventures.
